Takedown techniques for Wing Chun. Here are 2 of the best takedowns that can easily be added to your Wing Chun Chi Sao training. We use them in San Da (San Shou Kickboxing), but they can easily be used with a range of Wing Chun techniques in sparring and Chi Sao. This technique can also be used in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) as well, in fact you will often see high level wrestlers, Judo, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighters using this takedown technique. This video covers how to take someone down, and then what to do if they defend the takedown by sprawling their leg backwards.

If you like this video then check out our Wing Chun vs MMA video on how to avoid a wrestling shoot or takedown in MMA. Normally it is challenging at best especially when the takedown is combined with punches and kicks. So we also covered 3 simple Wing Chun vs MMA strategies that may help your takedown defence. These techniques are flexible and can be used for San Shou Kickboxing or Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training. Even for those that wish to test their Wing Chun skills against other styles of martial arts, especially Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) or Wrestling.

The 3 Wing Chun vs MMA Strategies are:

(1) CONTROL DISTANCE

The first Wing Chun technique requires that you control the space between you and the other fighter. In a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) or San Shou (San Da) environment you must prevent the connection with your body to avoid the Wrestling takedown, shoot, or throw.

(2) WING CHUN HAND FIGHT

Wing Chun has lots of great hand fighting techniques that are useful for takedown defence. Use the concept of Wing Chun barriers or bridges to avoid the wrestling takedown in MMA training. Your hands being your first barrier, your elbows being the second defence against the wrestling takedown.

(2) IMPROVE YOUR WING CHUN STRUCTURE

In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) it is referred to as posture. This is a similar concept in Wing Chun training. If caught in a Wrestling clinch or takedown position even in MMA training or San Shou Kickboxing it is wise to focus on establishing a good Wing Chun posture that improves your structure. Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training involves lots of Wrestling training designed to break posture, off balance opponents and takedown to the ground.
